Ministry promotes premium Hungarian honey, mangalica pork at Expo 2025 Osaka

Agriculture Minister Istvan Nagy said premium Hungarian farm products, such as honey and mangalica pork, offered breakthrough opportunities in Asia at an event hosted by the Hungarian pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka on Friday.

Nagy told the conference on sustainability in the beekeeping sector that Hungary produced 25,000-30,000 tonnes of honey a year, exporting 60pc of that. After other European Union member states, the biggest export market for Hungarian honey is Japan, where 1,600 tonnes is delivered each year, he added.

Acacia honey accounts for 90pc of exports. Nagy also highlighted marbled pork from the mangalica, a Hungarian pig breed distinguished by its wooly coat, that can be found on the menus of gourmet restaurants around the world. Mangalica is available in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, he added.
