Hungary is heading into a mostly sunny and dry week, with afternoon temperatures climbing to around 25°C in many areas. The catch: mornings will be sharply colder.

A stretch of settled early autumn weather is expected across Hungary next week, with plenty of sunshine and little to no rain.

According to HungaroMet’s latest forecast, daytime highs will generally remain between 21 and 26°C, keeping conditions pleasantly warm for the end of September and start of October. At the same time, nights and early mornings will feel considerably colder, with minimum temperatures falling as low as 1–2°C in some areas. MobilMet

The sharp contrast will be one of the defining features of the week.

Weather portal Időkép says daily temperature swings could exceed 20°C in places, particularly where clear skies and light winds allow temperatures to drop quickly overnight before sunshine drives rapid warming during the day.

In practical terms, that means a jacket or cardigan may be essential when leaving home in the morning, while a T-shirt could be enough by the afternoon.

Sunshine dominates the week

  • Monday is expected to bring largely uninterrupted sunshine across the country, with dry conditions and afternoon temperatures of around 22–26°C.
  • Tuesday is forecast to remain similarly bright and dry. Morning temperatures could fall to between 1 and 11°C, followed by highs of 22–26°C later in the day.
  • Wednesday will also be mostly sunny, although some high cloud may reach northern Hungary later in the day. Temperatures are expected to range from around 1–11°C at dawn to 22–25°C in the afternoon.

The dry pattern is then set to continue into Thursday and Friday, with filtered or uninterrupted sunshine and daytime highs mostly between 21 and 25°C.

Despite the warm afternoons, the colder nights mean autumn is becoming increasingly noticeable. Időkép notes that temperatures could fall close to 5°C in many places, while ground frost may still occur in some of the country’s more frost-prone locations.

Little sign of rain

HungaroMet expects mostly dry conditions throughout the working week, with sunshine dominating and only limited cloud cover at times. Winds should generally remain light or moderate, although stronger gusts may develop locally, particularly around Sopron and parts of eastern Hungary.

The result will be a classic early autumn pattern: cold starts, warm afternoons and large temperature swings throughout the day.

For anyone heading out early, layering will likely be the safest option — because what feels like jacket weather before breakfast may feel almost summery just a few hours later.
