Brutal heatwave coming to Hungary! – forecast

Hungary weather weather forecast

Hungary is going to face a tremendous heatwave in the coming days. However, in the eastern counties, clouds will be heavier in some places, with a few showers and thunderstorms possible. Winds will remain moderate, with strong gusty winds only around thunderstorms. Read more on the Hungarian summer weather below.

Hungary in rain and heat

The abundant sunshine in Hungary will be interrupted by a few clouds, according to the National Meteorological Service. On Sunday, daily average temperatures may exceed 25 degrees Celsius in most parts of the country. Temperatures may go up to 27 degrees Celsius in the south-eastern parts of the Great Plain. During the day, there may be a chance of showers in the south-eastern and eastern border areas.

Due to the risk of heat, a second-degree warning has been issued for Békés and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok counties, and a first-degree warning for Budapest, Pest, Baranya, Bács-Kiskun, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Csongrád-Csanád, Fejér, Győr-Moson-Sopron, Hajdú-Bihar, Heves, Komárom-Esztergom, Nógrád, Somogy, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, Tolna and Veszprém counties.

On Sunday, lows will be between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius, but in cold-prone areas, it could be 13 to 14 degrees Celsius. Highs are expected between 31 and 36 degrees Celsius.

The heat will continue to increase in the coming days. Next week, highs of up to 38 degrees Celsius will be recorded, with temperatures in several areas reaching above 20 degrees Celsius in the coldest hours. For this reason, the Chief Medical Officer, Cecília Müller, is issuing a third-degree heat alert from midnight on Monday (00:01) until midnight on Thursday.

Third-degree heatwave alert

From Monday at midnight (00:01) until Thursday at midnight, the Hungarian Chief Medical Officer has issued the highest heat alert, a third degree. This is the highest level of heat alert that can be issued by the National Health Service, writes Időkép.

A third level heat alert is issued when the daily mean temperature exceeds 27 degrees Celsius for at least 3 consecutive days.

Next week will see a longer period of hot weather. Temperatures will be rising above 35 degrees Celsius in several places. Furthermore, it is time to get ready for warm tropical nights. Increasingly fewer and fewer places remain where temperatures may fall below 20 degrees Celsius at night.

Because of the high temperatures, a third-level heat warning will be in force from Monday midnight until Thursday at midnight.
