Hungary’s jobless rate remains below EU average
Budapest (MTI) – Hungary’s unemployment rate remained below the EU average in March, the economy ministry said on Friday, citing Eurostat figures.
The jobless rate was 7.4 percent in March, well below the euro zone average of 11.3 percent and the EU average of 9.8 percent. The rate decreased by 0.5 percentage points between March 2014 and March 2015, it said.
Youth unemployment stood at 19.2 percent, also below the European average of 20.9 percent.
The decline can mostly be attributed to new jobs in the private sector, it said.
Sandor Czomba, the ministry’s state secretary of labour, told public news channel M1 on Friday that, pending the output of the farming sector, the jobless rate might even dip below 7 percent by the end of the year.
