IKEA Soroksár to become the world’s largest fulfilment store by 2026

After a year of extensive renovations, IKEA Soroksár is bringing solutions and improvements that the world’s largest home furnishing retailer has tested and implemented globally, all under one roof for the first time. IKEA Soroksár is poised to become the largest fulfilment IKEA store in the world by 2026.
This reinvention of a classic IKEA store strengthens its role as a key hub for online orders, handling deliveries faster and not only across Budapest, but to every single customer in Hungary. Equipped with cutting-edge automation, robotics, and digital tools, the nearly 50-million EUR investment has doubled the store’s online sales capacity and enhanced in-person shopping and e-commerce fulfilment, while ensuring a full product range remains available for customers in the store.
“At IKEA, we constantly test and try how to bring our affordable home furnishing offer to more people physically and digitally in the most convenient way,” says Tolga Öncü, Ingka Retail Manager (COO) at IKEA Retail (Ingka Group). “The Soroksár store is a testament to that vision where we went an extra mile to challenge some of our basics to better respond to the customer expectation and optimize our presence. It could become a template for many other stores going forward.”
A new era of shopping
IKEA’s research highlights how customer expectations are evolving, leading to a shift in how people shop for home furnishings. By combining its long-standing retail expertise with modern technology, the Soroksár store delivers inspiring, frictionless shopping.
“It’s really a different kind of experience if you’re going through the Soroksár store compared to any other IKEA store around the world. The shopping journey is shorter, more interactive and automated, and it still offers our customers the full IKEA experience – complete with our entire product range, expertise of our co-workers, and of course delicious IKEA food,” says David McCabe, Country Retail Manager & Chief Sustainability Officer for IKEA Czechia, Hungary, and Slovakia.

The store’s hybrid model merges digital and physical shopping, offering new ways to interact with the IKEA range. Features like the Rug Projector tool bring products to life, while digital kiosks and the IKEA app simplify browsing, in-store navigation, and post-purchase engagement.
Built for the future
IKEA Soroksár is currently the largest fulfilment store in Europe. With its combined truck and parcel delivery capabilities, along with the volume of goods handled measured in cubic meters, it is well-positioned to become the largest fulfilment store globally by 2026.

IKEA Soroksár’s revamp reflects the company’s commitment to innovation and long-term growth in Hungary. Automation enables greater efficiency and nearly doubles online outbound capacities, making it possible to extend online orders from 540 000 to 950 000 per year. It also contributes to shorter delivery routes and more sustainable operations. The transformation also includes extensive training programs to reskill and upskill employees, ensuring they are equipped for the evolving retail landscape.
“Hungary is a key market for us, and this investment secures our future here. By continuously testing and refining new retail solutions, we’re shaping a more efficient, customer-friendly, and human-centric IKEA,” adds David McCabe.
With this pioneering fulfilment store, IKEA is redefining what modern retail can be – seamless, efficient, and tailored to the way people shop today.
