Jobbik leader Vona to visit UK only to meet Hungarians living there

Jobbik

Budapest, January 21 (MTI) – Radical nationalist Jobbik leader Gabor Vona will travel to London to meet Hungarians living and working there rather than to meet representatives of the Greek Golden Dawn party or the British National Party, as reported in the press, the party said on Monday.

“At a public forum in London, the president of Jobbik will meet exclusively Hungarians forced to emigrate as result of the failed politics of Fidesz and the Socialists,” the party said in a statement.

“Reports of a meeting with representatives of either the Greek Golden Dawn party or the British National Party are pure lies,” it added.

The party reacted to a Tuesday report in news website hvg.hu, citing Britain’s itv.com, that a member of the London Assembly had written to the Home Secretary asking him to ban Vona’s planned event on Sunday.

The article claimed that Vona was scheduled to meet members of Greece’s Golden Dawn — who have openly expressed admiration for Adolf Hitler — and the British National Party (BNP) in Holborn, central London, on Sunday.

Vona said at a party event on Saturday that Jobbik politicians were planning visits abroad during the campaign and his next port of call was London, where he would meet Hungarians.
