Budapest, September 22 (MTI) – The justice committee of Hungarian parliament has endorsed the candidacy of three proposed constitutional judges.
The candidates, Agnes Czine, Tamas Sulyok and Andras Zs. Varga, were put forward by the governing parties. The Socialist opposition earlier indicated that because of the unilateral proposal of candidates it would not participate in the committee’s session.
Szabolcs Szabo, a lawmaker of the E-PM party who sits as an independent, attended the session and asked the candidates how in all conscience they could take up their posts with one-sided support, but the committee chairman made him stand down.
Parliament is scheduled to vote on the candidates on Wednesday. Their appointment requires the support of two-thirds of lawmakers.
