Major road closures in Budapest due to Turkic Council summit

Drivers and commuters in Budapest should prepare for significant traffic disruptions and road closures early next week as the city hosts the summit of the Organisation of Turkic States. The Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK) has announced a series of temporary closures and restrictions from Monday to Wednesday (20–22 May) across several central and outlying districts.
Dynamic closures across multiple districts
The closures are related to the movement of high-level delegations attending the summit. Authorities will implement “dynamic closures”, meaning that only the specific road sections and only for the necessary duration will be blocked off to allow official motorcades to pass safely, Portfolio reports.

The affected districts include:
- District I (Castle District)
- District V (City Centre)
- District VI (Terézváros)
- District XI (Ăšjbuda)
- District XIV (ZuglĂł)
- District XV (Rákospalota)
According to the police statement, key routes and landmarks where traffic disruptions can be expected include:
- The route to and from Liszt Ferenc International Airport
- Andrássy Avenue
- Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Road
- Széchenyi Square
- Március 15 Square
- Krisztina Boulevard
- Szent Gellért Embankment
- Chain Bridge and Elisabeth Bridge
- The Buda Castle area and its surroundings
No parking, limited taxi access

In addition to road closures, parking will be prohibited on several streets during the event. On Tuesday and Wednesday, designated taxi stands in affected areas will also be out of service. Travellers are advised to plan accordingly and use public transportation where possible, though even some transit services may be indirectly affected by the closures.
