Manfred Weber wrote a letter to Tisza head Péter Magyar about Ukraine’s EU accession

European People’s Party leader Manfred Weber has said in a letter addressed to opposition Tisza Party leader Péter Magyar that the EPP would continue to support Ukraine’s EU accession path, but also respected Tisza’s position.
Magyar said on Facebook on Friday that a letter addressed to him by Weber showed that the EPP respected the Tisza Party’s differing position from the EPP’s and took note that Tisza did not support the accelerated EU accession process for Ukraine and of its commitment to consult the Hungarian people through a binding national referendum at the appropriate time.

“As it clearly shows from this letter, the EPP respects its member parties’ differing positions and does not oblige them to represent the majority position of the EPP on important national issues,” he said. “I thank Manfred Weber for his sincere and supportive lines and wish further floundering for the corrupt powers that be in the remaining 296 days.”
According to Weber’s letter posted by Magyar, “Hungary is back with a strong voice in the biggest party of Europe, the EPP. I am happy that Tisza joined the EPP Group, and we are very thankful for the very good collaboration and the open discussion.”
