Mercedes ends shutdown caused by supply-chain woes in Hungary

German car maker Mercedes-Benz restarted production at its plant in Kecskemét, in central Hungary, on Monday, after a four-week shutdown, business daily Világgazdaság said on Tuesday.

Mercedes’ local unit said earlier it would shut down production in Kecskemet for three weeks because of a parts shortage caused by supplier troubles, but would use the downtime to carry out routine maintenance and make preparations for serial production of a new model.

Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary said the production shutdown would affect the 30th, 31st and 32nd calendar weeks, a period ending August 15.

Világgazdaság learnt that the shutdown extended to the 33rd calendar week, too.

Mercedes shut down production at its plant in Hungary for periods in January and April because of the global chip shortage.

Mercedes turned out more than 160,000 vehicles at the plant in Kecskemét last year.
