Modern age slavery!? A Hungarian purchased a man for 200€ and forced him to work
A 21-year-old Salgótarján man is being investigated on suspicion of human trafficking. The court’s orders arrested the suspect, who employed several people for forced labour Hvg reported.
Éva Dankóné Nagy, the spokeswoman of the Nógrád County Police Headquarters, told the details of the crime MTI. On February 7, the suspect ‘bought’ a man for 70,000 Forints (~ 210 €), then humiliated and forced the victim to work.
The victim spent nights in a shed used to store firewood. The suspect did not release the victim on the ground of him not working enough yet to make up for the money the suspect spent on him.
In 2019, the suspect promised housing for two other men in exchange for their work. They were ‘housed’ in the outbuildings and a car at the suspect’s property in Doroghaza. He also deprived one of his victims of his personal freedom.
The spokeswoman said that the 21-year-old man was detained by the officers of the county headquarters and Bátonyterenye police station on suspicion of trafficking and infringement of personal freedom. An investigation is ongoing about whether the suspect has committed similar or other crimes to the detriment of others. The court ordered the man’s arrest on Friday, the spokesman added.
