The Moroccan-American partnership is diversified and covers all sectors, thanks to the support of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Donald Trump, stressed Bourita during a press briefing following his talks with the US Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau.
The two countries are engaged in regular political dialogue and permanent consultation at all levels and in various fields, he added, highlighting the convergence of views between Rabat and Washington on a number of regional and international issues.
The two countries are working jointly to support security and stability at the regional and international levels, the minister specified.
Regarding security cooperation between Morocco and the United States, Bourita recalled the launch of the 28th edition of the “African Lion” exercises, the largest of their kind in Africa, as well as the numerous security meetings recently held in Washington within the framework of the Joint Commissions.
On the economic front, the minister noted that trade between the two countries has increased sevenfold since the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement, noting that the Kingdom remains the only African country linked to the US by such an agreement.
In terms of international cooperation, Bourita said that Morocco supports President Donald Trump’s initiatives for security and development around the world, recalling the Kingdom’s membership, as a founding member, in the “Board of Peace.”
On the same occasion, he announced Morocco’s adherence to the “Trade Over Aid” initiative recently launched by the United States, considering that it falls directly in line with the Royal Vision for development in Africa and the world.
Furthermore, the minister emphasized that the United States’ position on the Moroccan Sahara issue, particularly since the historic telephone conversation between His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Donald Trump in December 2020, constitutes a major turning point in bilateral relation.
