The annual national motorway vignettes for private cars valid from 1 January 2023 will cost HUF 49,190 (EUR 121.99), which is about 5 percent more than this year’s HUF 46,850 (EUR 117). The price of next year’s annual county vignette jumped from HUF 5,450 (EUR 13.61) to HUF 5,720 (EUR 14.28).
According to a price table published on the website of the National Toll Payment Service Ltd, vignettes valid for shorter time periods will increase more significantly.
According to index.hu, for private cars (D1 category), the price of monthly motorway vignettes will be HUF 8,900 (EUR 22.22) next year, up from HUF 5,210 (13.01). For comparison, in Romania people can buy Romanian vignettes for a fraction of the Hungarian price: a 30-day-vignette costs RON 34.62 (EUR 7).
A vignette valid for ten days will cost HUF 5,500 (EUR 13.73), up from HUF 3,820 (9.54) this year. In Romania, there is no county vignette, and instead of the 10-day solution, there is one valid for 7 days that costs RON 14.84 (EUR 3).

In Slovakia, according to eznamka.sk, the prices in 2023 range from EUR 10 to 60. The annual vignette costs EUR 50-60. The monthly solution is EUR 14-17, and the one valid for ten days can be purchased for EUR 10-12.
Fines are also getting more expensive
Next year, not only vignettes but also fines will become more expensive. The fine for using a motorway in category D1 without a vignette will rise to HUF 18,750 (EUR 46.81) from 16,220 (40.50). This price is valid if paid within 60 days. Beyond that, it is HUF 74,970 (EUR 187.18). This year, this amount was HUF 64,850 (EUR 161.92).
According to Útdíj.hu, the fine for cars in category D1 in Romania is RON 250-500. This amount increases for other types of vehicles, but passengers are entitled to pay only 50 percent of the amount of the fine if they do so within 15 days of receiving the report, wrote Fanatik.ro.
Those who usually buy Hungarian vignettes for shorter periods should also consider buying an annual entitlement. In 2023, 9 weekly vignettes will cost the same as an annual vignette.
