New Budapest sports park named after legendary footballer Kubala
Work has started to build a sports park named after football legend Lászlo Kubala in Budapest’s 13th district.
Lászlo Kubala was a forward who played for clubs in Czechoslovakia and Spain. FC Barcelona’s fans elected Kubala, who died in 2000, as the club’s best player of all time.
Budapest Mayor Istvan Tarlos said at the cornerstone ceremony that by the time the park is completed in two years’ time leisure and sports facilities will include flood-lit running and bicycle tracks.
The district authority is providing 250 million forints (EUR 815,000) and the Budapest metropolitan council an additional 100 million, the mayor noted.
During his career in Hungary, Kubala played for Ferencvaros and Vasas.
