New direct flight connects Budapest with Middle Eastern capital

Jazeera Airways has launched a direct scheduled flight between the Hungarian capital and Kuwait City, further expanding travel links between Hungary and the Middle East. The first flight departed on Thursday from Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport (Budapest Airport).
According to Boglárka Illés, State Secretary for Bilateral Relations at Hungary’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the airline will operate the route twice a week.

“We promised it, and we delivered,” she said at the launch event, recalling that the announcement of the planned direct connection was made by Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó during the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Hungary and Kuwait.
The new route marks an important step in Hungary’s “Opening to the South” strategy, a foreign policy initiative that began over a decade ago to strengthen relations with countries in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia.
Jazeera Airways CEO Barathan Pasupathi said Budapest would be the gate to Europe for the airline, adding that the flight was expected to operate more frequently from 2026.
With the launch of this service, Kuwait City becomes the seventh Middle Eastern destination that is now directly accessible from Budapest.
