New shark species arrives at the Sóstó Zoo in Nyíregyháza
The Loro Park in Tenerife donated two zebra sharks to the Sóstó Zoo (Nyíregyháza Zoo) in Hungary.
The two zebra sharks are the 14 months old male Maui and the 15 months old female Nazare. The animals are currently only slightly longer than 1 metre, but when fully developed, they could reach lengths of 2.5 metres.
Loro Park, located on the Canary Islands have donated some of their recently born sharks to not only Nyíregyháza, but also to the zoo in Vienna, the head of Sóstó Zoo’s educational department reported to MTI.

These exotic animals receive their meal consisting of herring, mackerel, hake and squid once a day.
Zebra sharks are nocturnal and spend most of the day resting motionless on the sea floor. They usually prefer the shallow waters near the shore, the area around the coral reefs, but they rarely venture out to the high seas.
With the new inhabitants, visitors can now meet a total of seven shark species in the Sóstó Zoo in Nyíregyháza.
