David Pressman, the new US Ambassador of Hungary, landed at Budapest Airport on Friday morning. The United States is a friend of Hungary and of the Hungarian people, David Pressman said on his arrival.
Hungary and the US are allies
The diplomat said “these are complicated times and in complicated times it is more important than ever for friends to pull each other closer”. “Our countries have worked together as allies on economic and security issues”, Pressman said, and called for strong bilateral ties built on shared values.
Pressman said he was looking forward to working together with the Hungarian government and meet as many Hungarians as possible. Pressman took his oath of office on 8 August.
Pressman has been to Hungary before
The introduction was broadcast live on Facebook by hvg.hu. Pressman also recalled that decades ago, his first independent trip to Europe also took him to Budapest Airport, where he stayed with a Hungarian family and travelled around Europe with Hungarian friends, hvg.hu reports.
“This is an extraordinary country full of the most talented people in the world. My 9-year-old son is a competitive speed cube player and a fan of Ernő Rubik,” Pressman shared.
Politics today are like Rubik’s cube
“Our politics today is a bit like a Rubik’s cube. These are complicated times, and in complicated times it is more important than ever for friends to pull each other closer. The United States is a friend of Hungary and the Hungarian people. I know there can be a lot of political noise around us, but this is an important moment and we need each other,” he added.
Pressman stressed that these two countries are fighting together as allies.
