Tax Authority selling pictures of famous Hungarian painters below market price
Paintings by István Szőnyi, László Mednyánszky and János Vaszary were put up for auction by the National Tax and Customs Authority (NAV). They also draw attention to the new offers on their Facebook page.
According to HVG, NAV has long held auctions, where confiscated goods and real estate are typically sold.
Now, it is possible to re-bid on various products, and even some rarities: according to the information posted on NAV’s Facebook page, pictures of several famous Hungarian painters can be purchased.
The starting price is HUF 4–10 million (~EUR 11,200-28,000), which is presumably lower than the market price.
Anyone over the age of 18 can bid, but there is an important clause: the law precludes the debtor from reclaiming the former property of the auctioneer in this way.
