One of the most popular attractions of Budapest to be removed, but…

According to privatbankar.hu, Sziget Eye will be removed from Erzsébet Square. An even bigger Ferris wheel will be placed there.

The Budapest Transport Center (BKK) announced that several bus lines operate on detour for a week, because the Ferris wheel on Erzsébet Square will be demolished.

However, no reason for feeling down, since Sziget Eye Belváros will return in the spring of 2016 – sziget.hu promises. They claim that a new and even bigger Ferris wheel will replace the old one.

The change is not surprising: Károly Gerendai, one of the owners of Óriáskerék Kft. said in the spring of 2015 that they would place an own Ferris wheel instead of the previous leased one. The businessman – who owns Sziget Fesztivál as well – talked about the negotiations with a Turkish company about the purchase of a big wheel and also about the possibility to get a 5-year-long land use right from the Budapest local government. Gerendai added that the Ferris wheel would cost more than 4 million EUR (more than 1.2 billion HUF), privatbankar.hu wrote.

They promised that the wheel will be bigger than the current one and also it will operate both summer time and winter time, since the cabins will be air-conditioned.

In the current season, the adult tickets costed HUF 2400 (around EUR 8) and the children had to pay HUF 1500 (EUR 5) for a round that meant three laps in 8-10 minutes. The tourists enjoyed it, but the Hungarians found it too expensive. However, privatbankar.hu thinks even Budapest residents should try it once.

Although, you could see many distant points of the city, you could still feel that a couple of meters are missing for the experience to be perfect. Now the bigger Ferris wheel can correct this weakness.

Here you can see a video about the construction of the current Ferris wheel:
