“On 12 April, we suffered an earthquake-like defeat. There’s no sugar-coating it,” Viktor Orbán, leader of the Fidesz party, wrote in a post shared across various Digital Civic Circles (DPK) Facebook groups, according to an article on news portal 444.hu.

In a message obtained by the Hungarian News Agency, the outgoing prime minister said that, despite the hardest campaign work his team had ever undertaken, they still lost the election. In an email to DPK members and the “Fight Club” online political movement, Orbán added that it was thanks to their efforts that the “pro-nation side did not kneel before globalist forces in the digital sphere either”. He said this stance “will always be remembered with respect in Hungarian political history”.
Orbán described the incoming government as a “liberal-faced grand coalition” similar to those in the European Parliament, but with the key difference that it would operate within a single party rather than across several.
“They will bow to Brussels”
He warned that Hungary was entering an era of “arbitrariness and willfulness”, with early signs already emerging. “By attacking the president and other constitutional office-holders, they aim to abolish constitutional guarantees,” the outgoing PM said. “They will bow to Brussels, support the war and back the migration pact. They want to scrap regulated energy prices. These are alarming signs, yet we hope we are wrong.”
Orbán said the top priority for the coming years would be defending the “achievements of the national era”, adding that renewal was essential for this. He said that Fidesz, as a major governing party, had weakened and could not revitalise the entire Hungarian right from opposition.
Orbán said he believed renewal must come from smaller groups and circles that uphold national ideals, such as the DPKs, which he said would be pivotal in reorganising the “pro-nation side”.
“For us, a period of unity, collective thinking and rebuilding lies ahead,” Orbán said. “This group and the entire DPK network are key pillars in the renewal of the pro-nation side. I am counting on you for rethinking, shaping opinions and joint action. I look forward to your proposals. I’ll be in touch soon!”
