Orbán’s commissioner: Ukraine’s new ambassador in Budapest, Sándor Fegyir, not Hungarian
MP Alpár Gyopáros was seen sitting in the group of Orbán’s governing Fidesz and also a government commissioner responsible for developing modern cities, when he made the controversial comment that he didn’t deem Sándor Fegyir, Ukraine’s new ambassador in Budapest and a professor at the Transcarpathian University of Ungvár (Uzshorod), a Hungarian.
According to hvg.hu, a Ukrainian news website shared a post saying that Hungary accepted Mr Fegyir’s designation as Ukraine’s next ambassador in Budapest. They tagged the new ambassador in the post, so it appeared on Fegyir’s Facebook site as well. Of course, it was written with Cyrillic characters. Apparently, it must have greatly angered Mr Gyopáros that he could not read it, even though a reader shared the text with him in Hungarian. He went on to reply under the post that Mr Fegyir was not a Hungarian man.
Fegyir is a lecturer at the University of Ungvár, a philosopher who volunteered to become a soldier after the Russian invasion. He has been serving on the eastern front, yet didn’t cease to be a teacher. He regularly held lectures from the trenches, so he was nicknamed “trench professor”. Hungary was sitting on his acceptance as ambassador for a good while. President Novák only signed the agreement six months after it was submitted, on 8 August.

Of course he is Ukrainian. As to his post in Ukrainian, of course. For a person that wears his Hungarian 24-7 he is super intolerant of other country’s patriotism
If I am a British Ambassador in Budapest, Hungary.
Would I not be allowed to fill the role as I’m not Hungarian ?.
If Hungary sent a Hungarian ambassador to London,
I would expect him to be Hungarian,
Not English.
Or am I missing the point,
As this is the country where I want to go and live in my retirement.
