Prime Minister Páter Magyar said he backed the direct election of the president fielding questions in a Reddit Ask Me Anything session late Saturday.
Asked whether he backed the election of the president by parliament or directly by citizens, Magyar said it was “up to the people”. “We’d like to involve everyone in the constitutional process. I am in favour of election by the people,” he added.
Responding to a question about the previous government’s system for supporting sports, Magyar said funding for sports would be made “transparent and subject to oversight” by including it in the budget. “Money for sports will not be cut,” he added.
He said an announcement regarding asbestos contamination uncovered in western Hungary could be made as early as the coming week.
