PHOTOS: Hungarian international airport closed due to the war
Multiple military aircraft used the airport’s runway for take-offs and landings, damaging its surface.
According to civishir.hu, a Debrecen-based online news portal, workers are already out in full force to renew the surface of the only runway of the Debrecen International Airport. The runway suffered extra burdens because of the ongoing war in Ukraine. Military aircraft generated significant traffic on the runway. Therefore, its surface was damaged.
To ensure the runway’s safety, the airport decided to replace some concrete elements between 3 and 9 October. As a result, the airport receives only HEMS flights for the time being.
