PM Orbán’s MEP talks about pro-war EP grand coalition in which Péter Magyar is a member

Votes have proven that the European Parliament’s “grand coalition” would carry on with its war-related policies even as peace talks were under way, Csaba Dömötör, an MEP of Hungary’s ruling Fidesz, said on Friday.
The EP’s “grand coalition” had adopted a resolution demanding more weapons deliveries, that Western weapons could be used to strike Russian territory, and the expansion of European training missions to Ukraine’s territory, Dömötör told a press conference in Budapest.
“This is yet another plan of escalation,” he said. The resolution also calls for setting up a multi-billion euro fund for providing military support to Ukraine, to which member states would be required to commit 0.25 percent of their GDP, he said, adding that in Hungary’s case this would amount to 200 billion forints (EUR 500.3m).

It also condemns Hungary for vetoing a statement last week, the MEP said, adding that the “grand coalition” wanted to abolish the veto and shift to majority voting. This, Dömötör said, would take away member states’ powers in a strategic area, adding that the migration pact had also been passed in a majority vote.
Dömötör said it was regrettable that the resolution “does not at all encourage the success of peace talks”. Meanwhile, he said Péter Magyar, the leader and an MEP of the opposition Tisza Party, was listed among the resolution’s sponsors, “though they later tried to deny this”.

“First they called it an administrative error, then they accused Fidesz’s MEPs of forging his signature,” Dömötör said. “This in and of itself is absurd.” Dömötör said Tisza’s MEPs had not voted against the document.
Tisza Party leader caught lying, says Dömötör
Tisza Party leader Péter Magyar “has been caught and is lying, as it has become customary with him”, an MEP of ruling Fidesz said on Thursday in connection with a recent European Parliament resolution. Csaba Dömötör said on Facebook that the recent “pro-war EP resolution” had been fully in the public domain since Tuesday and Magyar’s name had appeared on it until very recently.
He said Magyar “would have had a chance to vote against the resolution” and the minutes of the meeting were clear and Magyar would not be able to deny the facts. “In fact, in line with the approved resolution, they would send even more weapons to the battlefield, spend additional thousand billions on the war, condemn Hungary’s veto from last week, and in future they would limit the veto rights of pro-peace countries,” Dömötör said. “This is pledge of allegiance to the war. This is what his own EPP group and the other left wing parties of the EP grand coalition voted for. Manfred Weber’s people who nominated Peter Magyar,” he added.
“What they are doing gets no support in Hungary. But what’s happening in Brussels will not stay in Brussels, and everybody will find it out,” he added.
