Police apprehend 2,600 illegal migrants in S Hungary
Budapest, September 4 (MTI) – Police in southern Hungary apprehended 2,617 people who illegally crossed the Hungary-Serbia border — 546 children among them — on Thursday.
The Csongrad County police department said in a statement that once again most were picked up from areas around the Roszke border station. The majority declared themselves to be Syrian, Afghan or Pakistani.
Police have initiated immigration procedures against the illegal entrants, the statement said.
Across the country, police apprehended 3,313 people, among them 12 suspected of people smuggling and 3 are suspected of forging documents, the national police headquarters (OFFK) said.
