Public TV news anchor assaulted
Budapest, April 14 (MTI) – A news anchor of public news channel M1 was attacked and beaten up at the lakeside resort of Balatonfured in western Hungary, public news channel M1 reported on Tuesday.
The attackers first asked Miklos Borsa if he was a news reader, then fell upon him and shouted “you can lie now!”
Borsa is “relatively well”, but is not fit to work, M1 said.
The television channel voiced shock over the “assault connected to one’s occupation”.
The Association of Hungarian Electronic Journalists (MEUSZ) has condemned the attack.
In a statement sent to MTI, the association said that journalists can be criticised but “nothing will justify violence”.
MEUSZ rejects any violent expressions directed against journalists, the statement said, and called on reporters and trade unions to join the protest to ensure that similar atrocities will not recur.
