Reader’s letter: American lady tries to find her “Budapest Angel”
“Will you help me find my Budapest Angel? He came to my aid after a traumatic fall in front of the Intercontinental Hotel on the Pest side of the city.” – she wrote to us. Below you can read her letter substantially unchanged.
It was June 20 at approximately 11.00 AM. My husband and I had just left the hotel for some sightseeing and souvenir shopping. We had been on a Viking river boat cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest and we were spending our last few hours in Europe before returning to America. On the way out of the hotel, I tripped over my husband’s foot and fell face down against the pavement. I didn’t even have time to get my hands out in front of me to break my fall. I heard and felt my teeth scrape the sidewalk as I touched ground.
Out of nowhere came this man who identified himself as a former paramedic. He helped get me up, asses my injuries and talk me through the shock. My husband said he asked all the right questions. He told me I didn’t need any stitches and that my face had only superficial injuries. My husband and I retreated to our hotel room for rest and never saw him again.
I want to thank him and let him know I’m recovering with only a broken nose.
My injuries could have been so much worse that morning. I could have broken my jaw or lost teeth, or broke any other bone like a wrist or a shoulder. But God protected me from all that and sent me my Budapest Angel.
He may have been a limousine driver waiting to transport people from the Jewish Conference that I think began that day. I had been on the Viking Baldur ship. Do you think you could help reunite us? Or was he truly my angel?
