Reservist military service is popular in Hungary, says defence minister
Hungary is offering basic military training throughout the country, and contract and reservist military service are becoming increasingly popular, the defence minister said on Saturday.
Close to 200 new contract and reservist recruits reported for military training this week, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky said in a statement.
Thousands have signalled their intention to join the military since the Hungarian Armed Forces launched a reservist recruitment campaign in June, the minister said, adding that more than 1,000 people have signed up as reservists.
The campaign has also boosted the recruitment of contract soldiers, and even hundreds of reservists have transferred over to the contract troops, Szalay-Bobrovniczky said.
