Hungarian pharmaceutical group Gedeon Richter said on Wednesday it had signed a global collaboration agreement with India’s Hetero Labs to jointly develop, register and commercialise a semaglutide injection, a generic version of the blockbuster diabetes treatment Ozempic.

Hetero has already made “significant” development investments, including in technology set-up and the manufacture of registration batches, Richter said.

Regulatory filings are under way, with submissions to the European Union and the United States expected in 2027, the company added.

The partnership will draw on Hetero’s reach in the US and emerging markets, alongside Richter’s established commercial infrastructure across Europe and Central Asia, while preserving the option for future European manufacturing by Richter.
