Fidesz MP reelected Roma leader despite budget fraud allegations

Flórián Farkas has been unanimously re-elected to head Lungo Drom for another five years, the organisation for protecting the interests of the Roma told MTI on Saturday.
 
Lungo Drom said in a statement that it is committed to the government’s policy. As a
“strategic ally” of governing Fidesz,
Lungo Drom said it sees the continuation of the government’s social integration programme to be the primary means for establishing the conditions necessary for the well-being of Hungary’s Roma.
 

According to 444.hu, Farkas has been the chairman of Lungo Drom for 30 years. The police have been investigating for five years because of the Híd a munka világába (Bridge to the World of Work) programme. The initiative aimed to help Roma young people to get a job. However, its leaders only bought expensive cars and

spent HUF 1.6 billion (EUR 4.44 million) on luxury items.
