New York-based pianist and teacher Roger Peltzman makes his Budapest debut this May with “Dedication”, a touring one-man show that blends live piano, storytelling and humour with a deeply personal family history rooted in the Second World War. The Budapest run takes place on 12, 13 and 14 May 2026 at Bródy House Theatre (Bródy Sándor utca 10, District VIII).

For around an hour, Peltzman moves between musical styles — from blues to Chopin — while guiding the audience through a narrative that is frank about tragedy but ultimately shaped into something affirming. The performance is dedicated to the memory of his uncle, a young, promising pianist whose life was cut short during the Holocaust.

“Dedication Budapest” is part concert, part memoir, part theatre

“Dedication Budapest” is not a traditional recital, and it is not a conventional play either. Peltzman performs at the piano, tells jokes, speaks directly to the audience and uses the structure of a one-person show to connect music with memory. In the synopsis published by the production, “Dedication” recounts his family’s flight from Nazi persecution in war-torn Europe, weaving drama and images into the musical programme.

The story centres on an evolving relationship with his uncle Norbert Stern, described in the show materials as a brilliant pianist who was murdered in Auschwitz at the age of 21. Peltzman also addresses the after-effects of Holocaust trauma across generations and the role music can play in living with grief.

From Edinburgh Fringe to an international tour

According to the production history shared by the artist, “Dedication” premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2022 and went on to tour internationally, including a London run and performances in cities across the United States and Europe. The show has also been staged for a special event at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Peltzman’s current European tour schedule lists Amsterdam as an earlier stop before Budapest, with Hamburg following soon after.

Venue guide for visitors: Bródy House and Budapest English Theatre

Budapest English Theatre (BET), an independent English-language company in Hungary, is presenting Peltzman’s Budapest performances at Bródy House, a well-known boutique hotel and cultural venue in the Palace Quarter area of District VIII.

For expats and visitors, this is a useful detail: Bródy House is not a large proscenium theatre, but a more intimate setting — the kind of venue where a personal story, live piano and direct address can feel particularly close to the audience. BET’s announcement also notes that the performance will be followed by a post-show panel discussion and Q&A, adding context for those who want to engage more deeply with the themes after the curtain call.

Tickets and practical details

“Dedication Budapest” runs on 12–14 May 2026 at Bródy House Theatre (1088 Budapest, Bródy Sándor utca 10). Ticket information is available via Budapest English Theatre’s official site and the event listings for the production. BET has also advertised a limited discount code (LOVEMORE) for ticket checkout.

With its mix of virtuoso playing, sharp timing and a story that moves from darkness toward meaning, “Dedication Budapest” is likely to appeal to audiences who enjoy theatre that takes emotional risks — and to music lovers curious about a show that treats the piano not just as an instrument, but as a narrator.
