Attention: Temporary traffic restrictions in Budapest start today

From today until 23 August, temporary traffic restrictions will be in place in Budapest due to the St Stephen’s Day events, the police announced on their website on Friday. The closures will mainly affect the riverfront roads, the bridges, the Buda Castle area, the city centre and City Park.

According to the Budapest Police Headquarters, in addition to phased and temporary closures, no-parking zones will also be introduced in many parts of the capital. Owners of vehicles towed away for parking violations can call the toll-free number 06-80-180-780 for information.

On 15 August, a section of Műegyetem Quay in District XI will be closed to vehicle traffic until midnight on the 18th, and again from 21 to 23 August, while the Chain Bridge will remain closed until dawn on the 21st. From 15 August, pedestrians will not be able to cross Margaret Bridge, and from the 16th to the 21st, the northern pavement of Liberty Bridge will also be closed.

From 15 August, closures will affect the lower embankments on both the Buda and Pest sides, as well as the Buda Castle, and from 18 August Kós Károly Promenade in District XIV will also be closed.
