Budapest to Host 2025 Buenos Aires Tango World Championship Preliminary Round

From 25 to 27 April 2025, Budapest will host, for the first time, the official Preliminary of the Buenos Aires Tango World Championship, the most important global Argentine tango dance competition. The final round will take place in Buenos Aires from 13 to 26 August 2025

xThe Budapest Preliminary Round will be organised by Zsolt Szénási, director of Tango Temptation, with the support of the Argentine Embassy in Hungary. It is part of an international network of venues celebrating tango as a living and evolving artistic expression.

The significant development of the Argentine tango scene in Central and Eastern Europe has established Budapest as one of the international capitals of this dance. This has led to the city becoming a preliminary qualifying venue for the Argentine Tango World Championship.

Tango in competition

The competition in Budapest will include the official category “Tango de Pista” (tango salón style), as well as non-official categories such as “Milonga” and “Vals”. The Preliminary will be held in three stages: Qualifying, Semi-Final, and Final.

An international jury, approved by the Buenos Aires World Championship organisation, will assess the participating couples. The Director of the Tango World Cup and Festival, Ms Laura Mazzei, will travel especially from Buenos Aires to attend the Preliminary Round in Budapest.
