Second World War bomb discovered in popular Budapest park!

A suspected Second World War bomb has been discovered in a popular park in Budapest’s 12th district, prompting immediate security response from authorities.

World War-era explosive found in popular Budapest park

The explosive device was found during earthworks in Csörsz Park, a well-known green space and playground frequently visited by local families. According to a statement from the Hegyvidéki Önkormányzat, bomb disposal experts were immediately alerted and were on their way to the site soon after the discovery.

Police and local public safety officers have cordoned off the area while specialists assess the object. The Budapesti Rendőr-főkapitányság confirmed that the scene is secured, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact type and condition of the device. Early reports suggest it may be a roughly 100-kilogram wartime bomb, writes 24.hu. At present, no evacuation has been ordered, and officials say decisions about possible safety measures will depend on the outcome of the technical examination.

Not the first explosive in the area

This is not the first such incident in the neighbourhood. As Blikk reported, back in 2019, several wartime explosives were uncovered nearby during clearance works, forcing around 2,000 residents to temporarily leave their homes while bomb disposal teams safely neutralised the devices.
