Serbian people smugglers sentenced to 3 years in South Hungary
Budapest, August 14 (MTI) – A Szeged court found three Serbian nationals guilty of human smuggling and sentenced them to three years in prison, a spokesman for the Csongrad County prosecutor’s office said on Friday.
Ferenc Szanka said the defendants smuggled seven people accross the Hungarian border and intended to transport them toward the inner parts of the country. The court also expelled the three men from Hungary for five years. The defendants and their attorneys appealed the ruling.
One of the defendents had agreed with his client in Serbia to smuggle the migrants from the border station at Roszke toward the inner parts of the country for 100 euros. The man entered Hungary near Roszke and waited at the station until 3am when his two accomplices arrived with the migrants. Police arrived at the scene just as the migrants were getting in the defendant’s car.
