Warning issued! Hungary braces for snowfall and freezing rain of a magnitude not seen in ages

Snowfall will resume from the early hours of Monday, with accumulations exceeding 10 cm possible across a wide area in the southern half of the country by Tuesday morning, according to the HungaroMet Ltd’s Sunday hazard warning.
Significant snowfall next week
The warning, sent to the Hungarian News Agency, states that snow will begin again from the south during Monday’s early morning hours, spreading to most of the country during the day.
The heaviest snow is expected in the southern half by Tuesday morning, where accumulations over 10 cm could form across larger areas. Amounts will decrease northwards: around 5-10 cm in central regions, and 1-5 cm in northern counties.

As a result, HungaroMet Ltd has issued first-degree (yellow) warnings for snow hazard until midnight Monday in Baranya, Bács-Kiskun, Békés, Csongrád-Csanád, Fejér, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Pest, Somogy, Tolna, Veszprém, and Zala counties, where fresh snow exceeding 5 cm could fall within 12 hours.
Freezing rain also expected
They highlighted that from late Monday evening, strengthening northwesterly winds could drift freshly fallen snow, particularly in the Bakony area.
The forecast indicates that during Monday, eastern counties may see snow alongside rain, sleet, or freezing rain. Amid significant uncertainty, patches of persistent freezing rain are possible in smaller areas.
The meteorological service has issued first-degree warnings for weak freezing rain until midnight Monday in Békés, Csongrád-Csanád, Hajdú-Bihar, and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg counties.
