Six people, including two children, were taken to hospital for observation on Saturday after a large amount of chlorine entered one of the pools at the Igali Gyógyfürdő spa in southern Hungary.
The incident happened in the afternoon at the spa’s leisure pool area in Igal, Somogy County, after several visitors began feeling unwell.
Firefighters were called to the scene and inspected the area after it had been evacuated. Specialists wearing protective equipment also carried out checks, while a mobile laboratory took measurements at the site.
Four adults and two children taken to hospital
Ambulance crews examined 14 visitors following the incident. Six of them – four adults and two children – were taken to hospital for observation. There have been no reports of serious injuries.
According to Igal Mayor Imre László Szántó, the incident was caused by a technical problem that resulted in an excessive amount of chemicals entering one of the pools.
The contaminated water was treated, and the area was secured. The affected pool was subsequently closed in cooperation with the disaster management authorities, ambulance services and police.

Pool expected to remain closed until Monday
The mayor said in a video shared by Igal Média that the affected pool is likely to remain closed until Monday. However, the rest of the spa is operating normally and continues to welcome visitors.
The authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident, while the spa is also reviewing its internal safety procedures.
Szántó said the facility would review its existing protocols and introduce changes across the spa where necessary to prevent similar incidents in the future.
