Slovak ex-president calls supporting minorities common interest
Budapest, September 11 (MTI) – As Slovakia’s Hungarian minority and Hungary’s Slovak minority are deeply rooted in both countries’ history, fostering their language and culture, supporting their schools and institutions, and helping their communities’ survive and prosper are common interests, Slovak ex-president Rudolf Schuster said on Sunday.
Schuster visited Debrecen in eastern Hungary to receive the highest honour of the local university.
Addressing the ceremony, the ex-president, who held that post from 1999 to 2004, expressed thanks to his one-time counterparts Arpad Goncz and Ferenc Madl as well as to Hungary’s current prime minister for their efforts to intensify bilateral relations.
