Socialists propose awarding degree without language qualification
Budapest, April 22 (MTI) – The opposition Socialists have proposed that the estimated 50,000 Hungarians who earn a degree in their core subject but are not awarded one for lack of a language qualification should receive it with “language qualification pending” stamped on it. It would then be up to the labour market to decide its value.
Currently a language qualification is a requirement for a degree.
Istvan Hiller, the Socialist Party’s education spokesman, told a press conference that extra language training should be made available in schools during the extra-curricular afternoon period.
Also, the government should re-introduce the option of a preparatory year before enrolling in university and use European Union resources to enable all undergraduates to spend at least three months abroad during their studies, Hiller said.
