Hungarian FM Szijjártó holds talks with new liberal Austrian counterpart

Austria has a new foreign minister, it is the first opportunity to work together with liberal Austrian counterpart Beate Meinl-Reisinger “with whom we had the first consultation over the phone”, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Friday.

He said he had assured Meinl-Reisinger that Hungary would continue protecting its southern border, not allow illegal migrants to enter, by which it also protects Austria. Austria will run next year for membership in the UN Security Council and it has Hungary’s support for it, he added.

“Within a few days, at the council meeting of foreign ministers, I will have an opportunity to personally meet my new colleague but so far my first impressions are very positive,” the foreign minister said on Facebook.
