A lot of vaccine certificates become invalid today in Hungary because of this change!

vaccination immunity certificate_hungary

After 1 May, the documents of unvaccinated people who obtained their immunity certificate by contracting the COVID-19 infection will lose their validity.

Vaccination card

As Népszava’s online portal reported, as of Sunday, only those who have been vaccinated will continue to have a valid immunity card. The name of the document will also change and will be called a vaccination card. Vaccination cards will be valid for six months after the second vaccination and will become definitive when the third vaccine is given.

As Helló Magyar reported, once issued, the cards will not need to be exchanged, and their validity will be electronically recorded in the Electronic Health Service Space (Egészségügyi Elektronikus Szolgáltatási Tér, EESZT) where it can be retrieved by a QR code on the card.

How many shots for validity?

If you become infected after two vaccinations, your certificate will remain valid for six months from then. For those vaccinated with the single-dose Janssen vaccine, a booster vaccine must also be given within 6 months for the card to remain valid.

For those under 18, one vaccine for the single-dose vaccine and two vaccines for a double-dose vaccine will be sufficient to achieve unlimited validity.

However, with the abolition of virtually all protection measures from 7 March 2022, the obligation to present an immunity certificate has mostly been abolished. In other words, there are currently no additional privileges attached to the immunity card. But this could change in the case of another wave of the pandemic.

Validity of other, already expired official documents

As Telex reported, documents, including identity cards, driving licences, passports, and registration permits, which have expired during the emergency caused by the coronavirus outbreak, will be valid for two more months, until 30 June, the Minister of State for Regional Administration of the Prime Minister’s Office said on Facebook on Saturday.

Wizz Air announced new destinations for the summer: Ukraine is among them! – UPDATED

wizz air

The coronavirus pandemic has slowed down the trend of travelling abroad. Now that we seem to be coming out of it, it is the war that is a negative factor. This summer, however, Wizz Air will be launching more new flights from Hungary, and even the Ukrainian capital will be back on the list, among some new destinations.

Back to Ukraine?

As we have reported before, at the beginning of April, Wizz Air cancelled all its flights to and from Ukraine and Russia until the end of October, that is, the end of the summer timetable. Now, according to hvg.hu, Wizz Air is flying to Kyiv again this summer.

Flights to Kyiv are full for the first week of July, tickets are no longer available.

Apart from the flights to Kyiv, more destinations are added to the timetable for the summer. However, it will take some time for the airline industry to get back to 2019 levels, that is, the pre-pandemic levels. The executive vice president (henceforth: EVP) of Wizz Air told pénzcentrum.hu that he expects it to happen by 2024-25.

Expectations

Wizz Air EVP Jourik Hooghe said that “people’s need for mobility will restore the appetite for travel”, but the airline is more confident in the long-term recovery than the short-term. They believe the airline industry may be back to 2019 levels by 2024-25.

“In 2020, at the start of the pandemic, our turnover fell by more than 70 per cent. Initially, we put the airline into hibernation to minimise losses, while continuing to invest in our network and fleet to be stronger by the time the industry rebounds,”

Hooghe told pénzcentrum.hu.

“The last two years have proven once again that the ultra-low-cost model is the fastest way to respond in the aviation industry, and we were able to open new bases and launch new routes during the pandemic, while several airlines were in a state of near-bankruptcy,”

the EVP added.

New destinations

As Wizz Air reported back in January, the capital of Moldova, Chișinău, will soon be accessible from Hungary. What is more, from this summer, it will also be possible to fly from Debrecen to Corfu and Burgas, Bulgaria.

“One of Hungary’s most popular resorts, Hévíz, will soon be connected to Dortmund in Germany, while the winter schedule will see passengers flying from Budapest to Hurghada in Egypt and Aqaba in Jordan,”

Hooghe reported the good news.

UPDATE (04.24.)

Following our article, Wizz Air emailed us, emphasising that, based on their early-April announcement, they cancelled all flights to Russia until October 30. In the case of Ukraine, that cancellation was only until the end of June. However, even though there are bookable flights from July on their website, there are no real travel opportunities behind these. Therefore,

currently, nobody can travel to Kyiv.

They added that they keep monitoring the ongoing war in Ukraine. Once the authorities abolish the airspace closure, and travelling becomes safe again, Wizz Air is ready to launch flights to Ukraine.

Extraordinary announcement: Orbán to change the constitution again! – UPDATED

international_press_conference_viktor_orbán

In view of the war in Ukraine, the government will propose expanding the types of special legal order enshrined in the constitution, the prime minister’s chief of staff said on Thursday.

The state of special legal order introduced as a result of the coronavirus epidemic will end on May 31, Gergely Gulyás told a regular press conference. In view of the war in Ukraine, it is important that the government should be able to

take swift action when necessary

and it will propose expanding the status of special legal order to include humanitarian catastrophe and war in a neighbouring country, he said. This option will hopefully not need to be used but the possibility needs to be there, he said.

Hungary will continue making every effort to restore peace as soon as possible but its influence is limited, he said. It is a realistic scenario that the war could last for months or even years, and the movement of troops shows that the fights could intensify for periods of time, he added.

So far, some 625,000 refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine have crossed to Hungary,

Gulyás said. Over 80 percent have already travelled on, and the number of those currently staying here is estimated at maximum 100,000, he said. The government aims to provide work or education to as many as possible, and as a first safe country, it will provide refuge, accommodation and food to those forced to flee their homes, he said.

Coronavirus case numbers in Hungary suggest that while the coronavirus pandemic has not disappeared, its intensity has diminished,

the prime minister’s chief of staff said on Thursday.

In the past 24 hours, 24 people died in Hungary of a coronavirus-related illness, and 3,041 new infections were registered, Gergely Gulyás told a regular press briefing. Meanwhile, the number of people needing intensive care has fallen to 1,500, 48 of whom are on a ventilator, he said.

The number of new infections still varies rather widely, showing the presence of the virus in the populace, Gulyas said, adding that elderly people and patients with pre-existing conditions are the most vulnerable groups.

According to portfolio.hu, the minister highlighted that there would be no more restrictions in the coming months.

Important announcements from Wizz Air regarding mask-wearing!

Wizz Air

Because of the decreasing number of new coronavirus infection cases, Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air changed their mask-wearing rules. They announced the relevant new regulations on their website.

New mask-wearing rules

According to Blikk, most countries are easing restrictions introduced to baulk the spread of coronavirus. Therefore, Wizz Air decided to change the rules of mask-wearing on their planes. Wearing a mask will be obligatory on all planes if the departure or arrival country prescribes them. Otherwise, mask-wearing will be the free choice of the cabin crew and the passengers.

Wizz Air added that the new rule applies only to those passengers who have a certificate from their doctor saying why they cannot wear a mask. Furthermore, they must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test, which is not older than 48h. Passengers who would like to travel without a face mask have to contact Wizz Air’s helpdesk 48 hours before their travel and tell them they would not wear a mask during the flight. Moreover, they have to arrive 2 hours before their flight is due to show the two aforementioned documents, the medical certificate and the negative PCR test).

However, the cabin crew can also ask for these documents, so you should keep them with you during the flight. Importantly, provided you do not have these documents, you cannot be exempted from obligatory mask-wearing. For those not following the rules, Wizz Air may deny the trip.

Several popular flights are to be relaunched in June

Wizz Air announced that they would relaunch many of their former popular summer flights in June. These destinations include Sardine in Italy, Ibiza, and Palma de Mallorca in Spain. Moreover, the low-cost company will extend their Greece portfolio. The new destinations will include Corfu, Hanía, Heraklion, Mykonos, Santorini, Kos, Rhodes, and Zakynthos. Furthermore, they will fly to Burgas in Bulgaria as well.

The Hungarian low-cost airline adds new destinations regularly because they hope that this summer, the number of passengers will reach the pre-pandemic level, index.hu reported.

Hungarian forint continues to weaken – will it fall victim to the war and crisis?

forint euro bills

The Hungarian forint has been up and down in the past weeks, but mostly down. One company has already been wrecked by the economic crisis.

As Forbes put it, the forint is tired. After the victory of FIDESZ, it has been jumping up and down, but by now, it is stuck in the same place. The forint strengthened slightly against the euro on Friday morning. Although it has already worked its way down from Thursday’s 380, it seems that the exchange rate has settled around 378.55. It is still not a good rate at all, given that prior to the parliamentary election, the price of one euro was HUF 366-367.

Rule-of-law mechanism and press conference

There are two main reasons for the continuous bounce of the forint this week: the launch of the rule-of-law conditionality mechanism and Orbán’s press conference. As we wrote earlier this week, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, has formally announced that the

European Commission is activating the rule-of-law conditionality mechanism against Hungary.

During a press conference earlier this week, PM Orbán said that when talking to Russian president Putin on the phone, he asked for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. What is more, he also said during the conference that if Russia wants Hungary to pay for natural gas in roubles, that would be no problem for the country.

However, Ursula von der Leyen was not so happy about it. She said that it indeed would be a problem and that if Hungary does proceed to pay Russia in roubles, that would be a breach of EU sanctions against Russia.

First victim of the economic crisis: Tungsram

From Monday, Tungsram will send the affected employees on leave due to partial factory shutdowns. The reason is that the company is facing an unsolvable situation due to the economic circumstances, as mfor.hu reported.

In a recent interview with Index.hu, the head of Tungsram explained that the pandemic, global supply difficulties, and the war in Ukraine have left the group facing

an unsolvable situation, and only immediate government support would allow the survival of the historic Hungarian brand.

Therefore, there will be a shutdown from Monday for a week, and at the LED section of the factory in Nagykanizsa, it will last until 22 April, and the workers concerned will be given leave for this period, writes the Zala County news portal.

According to Index.hu, Jörg Bauer, the company’s CEO, said that the crisis does not only affect Tungsram. He said that

the European industry, including the Hungarian industry, urgently needs EU and government help to survive.

At the European level, one of his proposed solutions would be to introduce programmes to curb energy consumption, which would also reduce the EU’s dependence on imported gas and oil. Another would be to promote more recycling, which would reduce dependence on the Chinese market.

Today’s launch will provide a further boost to the local economy by creating 210 direct jobs and many more indirect jobs in the area. These additional aircraft reflect the demand Wizz Air anticipates as travel rebounds, as well as its long-term commitment to both the airport and region.

Wizz Air is currently recruiting for cabin and flight crew at Gatwick Airport, and is hosting a series of open recruitment days at Gatwick in April. The airline welcomes applications from experienced cabin crew, as well as those with no previous experience at all, and

“Wizz’s growing range of destinations is excellent news for passengers across London and the South East, providing more choice and competition to in-demand destinations. Importantly, it’s also fantastic news for the local economy, with more than 200 jobs created as a direct result of the new services.”

Henry Smith, Member of Parliament for Crawley, said: “It’s fantastic to welcome Wizz Air to Gatwick, with both the airline and airport’s commitment to sustainability, customer choice, service and good value, it’s a natural partnership which represents the very best of our aviation sector’s recovery following Covid restrictions being lifted.

I look forward to stepping on board myself soon!”

For ultimate peace of mind, passengers can book tickets with the airline’s travel insurance package which includes Covid-19 cover**** and WIZZ Flex. These top Hungarian restaurants in Budapest are coming back to life!

Even though both are Hungarian and both are in Budapest, these restaurants are strikingly different. One thing is for sure, though: both are opening again.

Kádár étkezde (Kádár canteen)

The Kádár canteen. Source: wikipedia.org

Back in January, we listed some restaurants that fell pray to COVID. In the article, we talked about Kádár étkezde (Kádár canteen) and how it was not only struggling due to the pandemic but also was up for sale. Now, the restaurant is reviving and is opening in a week.

As can be read in our previously mentioned article, Kádár canteen had been a favourite with its red-and-white checkered tablecloths, soda bottles, and home-style flavours for more than 60 years before it closed in 2020 – what everyone thought would be forever.

Now, however, it seems that Sándor Orbán will not let the widely loved and cherished restaurant go to waste. After 33 years, he will hand it over to an operator who will take care of its traditions, as we can read in turizmusonline.hu’s article. Over the decades, many artists, athletes, politicians, and media workers visited the place, and hopefully, this will continue in the future as well.

Costes Restaurant

The other restaurant that is opening again was Hungary’s first restaurant to get a Michelin star: Costes is rising from its ashes. Maybe not literally, since even though the restaurant was closed during the waves of COVID-19, for two years, only those who invited the restaurant’s staff to prepare and serve food in their own kitchens were able to enjoy the restaurant’s dishes.

As we can read in turizmusonline.hu’s article, the restaurant, which made fine dining history, opened its doors in 2008. Less than a year and a half later, it was awarded a Michelin star for its outstanding professionalism. Now, after two long and hard years, we are able to enjoy their excellent food again.

Also good news – and a surprise! – is that Jenő Rácz, a Hungarian star chef, is joining Costes’s staff to impress the domestic restaurant audience with his creativity and bravery when it comes to creating and styling dishes.
