Robbie Keane takes the helm as Ferencváros’ new head coach

robbie keane ferencváros

The former Irish footballer Robbie Keane was a very successful player, but he has also won championships as a coach.

Pascal Janssen, who managed the men’s football team of 35-time champion Ferencváros from the summer of 2024, has been bought out by the group that owns one of the world’s leading football clubs. FTC asked for and received a substantial sum for the outgoing coach.

Ferencváros have announced that they have found a successor to Dutchman Pascal Jansen at the helm of their 35-time champions and 24-time cup winners, with the signing of 146-time Irish international Robbie Keane on Monday. The new head coach arrived in Budapest on Sunday evening and will leave on Tuesday to join our team at the training camp in Spain.

Robbie Keane’s player career

The former top-flight striker Keane has played for Internazionale in Italy and in the English Premier League for Coventry City, Leeds United, Tottenham, Liverpool, West Ham United and Aston Villa, as well as Scotland’s Celtic, Los Angeles Galaxy in the US and Atlético Kolkata in India. The 44-year-old has scored more than 320 goals in 730 club matches, won the English Football League Cup with Tottenham and is a three-time MLS champion with LA Galaxy. He has scored 68 goals for the national team, making him the all-time goalscoring record holder for the national team, and played for the Republic of Ireland at the 2002 World Cup and the 2012 and 2016 European Championships. The former footballer has made 146 appearances for the Republic of Ireland national team.

Manager career

Keane made his coaching debut as player-manager of ATK India in March 2018 and joined the Republic of Ireland national team in November as assistant coach to national captain Mick McCarthy. Since June 2019, he has worked alongside former team-mate Jonathan Woodgate as assistant coach of Middlesbrough’s EFL Championship side. After leaving Middlesbrough following the outbreak of the pandemic, he completed his UEFA coaching qualification and was awarded the UEFA Pro Licence in 2020.

In the spring of 2023, he joined Sam Allardyce’s staff at Leeds United, but failed to keep the club in the Premier League and left to take up his first head coaching post as manager of Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel. In the 2023-2024 season, he won the league and the Toto Cup (the local League Cup) with Maccabi. His team played in the UEFA European Conference League, where they won their group and reached the last 16, where they were stopped by Greece’s Olympiakos – who they also beat. Maccabi won 4-1 in Piraeus, but in the return leg at a neutral venue – Bačka Topola – the Greeks won by the same margin, scoring two more goals in extra time to progress and later claim the trophy.

Keane left Maccabi after one season and has been without a club since the summer.

BREAKING: Russian gas giant Gazprom may be the main sponsor of Hungarian elite soccer club

Russian gas giant Gazprom may be the main sponsor

Ferencváros won the Nemzeti Bajnokság (OTP Bank Liga, the Hungarian soccer national championships) yesterday, and Hungarian press writes that Russian gas giant Gazprom may become its main sponsor in the new season.

Russian gas giant Gazprom will give a lot of money to Fradi

Blikk, a Hungarian tabloid, wrote that it is an open secret that Gazprom will be Fradi’s main sponsor, giving billions of forints to the top Hungarian soccer club.

Gazprom is the world’s largest natural gas extractor. The Russian giant was the shirt sponsor of the German Schalke and was among the top supporters of the UEFA. However, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the club and the association terminated their contracts.

Meanwhile, the Serbian Crvena Zvezda still has the company’s name and logo on its shirts. According to Blikk’s Serbian informants, the Russian firm gives EUR 5 million to the club each season. Blikk speculated that Fradi’s support would be even higher than that sum.

Game-changer: star footballer will come to Fradi?

Gazprom’s money might be a game-changer for Fradi. For example, Schalke bought Real Madrid’s icon, Raúl, with the Russian gas money they got. Blikk wrote that the Russian money might mean a star footballer may arrive soon at Fradi’s Budapest stadium on Üllői Street.

The annual budget will exceed HUF 20 billion (EUR 50 million) in 2024. In 2022, it was HUF 17,2 billion.

A sports economist, Gábor Szabados, told Blikk he would not believe that Fradi would spend the extra money on a star footballer. He believes Fradi will buy several high-quality players.

Gazprom’s sponsorship will be strange for many, and some will probably criticise it, Mr Szabados believes. Officially, however, the UEFA cannot sanction Fradi because of it.

Budapest Honvéd FC vs. Paksi FC: A Showdown of Legends

paks kispest hungary football match

In one of the most highly anticipated clashes in Hungarian football, Budapest Honvéd FC and Paksi FC recently battled it out on the pitch, delivering an exhilarating performance that left fans on the edge of their seats. The match ended in a 2-2 draw after the full-time whistle, setting the stage for an intense penalty shootout in the fourth round. In the end, Paksi FC emerged victorious with a 5-4 win, securing their path to triumph in this unforgettable showdown.

Head-to-Head Stats

So, how does this affect the H2H stats of the teams?

The H2H stats can be a good metric to determine the outcome of any match. So far, Honvéd is coming out on top, but Paksi has also shown some remarkable feats over the past few years.

Whether it’s a casual football fan or someone who enjoys to bet on football, everyone will agree that Honvéd is the better team. The way Paksi won was, nevertheless, not a fluke but a sheer display of skill and determination. Before the game began, Honvéd were favored +330 while the Paksi had the odds of -200. The odds for a draw were placed somewhere in the middle, not very likely but neither unusual for a game like this.

Now, in total, the two teams have played 54 matches. Out of these, Honvéd has won 21 and Paksi 11. The other 22 have been drawn. In terms of total score, Honvéd has scored 70 and Paksi 56. The stadium and the fans also played a pivotal role. Any kind of football forecast takes all such information into account to come to a conclusion.

However, what was surprising this time was the stadium. In the Fehérvári úti Stadion, Paksi FC has had the upper hand, winning 8 out of 25 games and drawing 10, while losing to Honvéd 7 times. On the other hand, in the Bozsik József Stadion, Honvéd has won 14 out of 28 times while only losing to Paksi 2 times (12 matches have been drawn).

This was a match in the Bozsik.

This does skew things in the favor of Paksi, undoubtedly. But still, going into the future, there are hardly any doubts about Honvéd’s better form in the season.

Future games?

Long gone are the times of the club’s Italian Renaissance under Marco Rossi. But still, they are going strong with renewed vigor.

As the footballing world eagerly anticipates the next clashes of the titans in the Hungarian football scene, Budapest Honvéd FC and Paksi FC both promise further sparks, suspense, and standout moments in their upcoming matches against other opponents.

Budapest Honvéd FC boasts an attack known for its creativity and flair. Their ability to break down defenses and score stunning goals is a defining feature. On the other hand, Paksi FC has displayed resilience in their defensive setup. The contest between these offensive and defensive strategies will be a focal point.

In related news, the OTP Bank Liga ended with Paksi winning 2-1 over Honvéd, even though many more thought that it would be the other way around. Here, too, many football fans expected Paksi to succumb, but they held strong.

Greater Hungary flags allowed in Hungarian stadiums!

Greater Hungary

The MLSZ allows the use of symbols without racist or political content, and international organisations continue to ban with racist or political messages. As promised by its president Sándor Csányi, MLSZ asked international organisations relevant to the case to clarify the question.

Evaluating the written position of UEFA and FARE and considering the situation, MLSZ made the decision that the outline map of historical Hungary without clear or hidden texts and symbols would not be the subject of disciplinary proceedings, and therefore it will permit the introduction of such flags and banners in accordance with the conditions of the association.

On 20th March, MLSZ provided detailed and accurate information on the above, but unfortunately the situation was misunderstood and misinterpreted in some cases. Due to the uncertainties and misunderstandings which have appeared in the media, we consider it important to repeat, confirm and supplement our previous announcement with a brief explanation. In the matter of allowing the display of the larger historical outline of the country, MLSZ requested a clear position from UEFA and FARE.

We repeat that this was MLSZ’s decision, i.e. we did not claim and do not claim now that UEFA allowed or specifically prohibited the introduction of the drapery. We declared and still declare that both organisations (and MLSZ) continue to condemn all forms of discrimination and will fight against racist, exclusionary or political messages.

At the same time, the MLSZ considers, in the light of the written declarations of the two organisations, that the federation’s position was neither disputed nor refuted by the organisations, therefore the federation will allow the display of drapery in the stadium for the two matches in accordance with the conditions stipulated, with the conviction that there would be no interpretation of clear or hidden messages which could result in accusations of any offence, and that there will be no justifiable disciplinary procedure regarding the display of draperies which only depict the map. We believe that the above is clear, well-founded and follows the rules, and that FARE, UEFA and MLSZ approached the issue with due care.

To our knowledge, only the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) interpreted the facts from its own point of view unilaterally and presumably with limited information, and attacked the decision of the MLSZ unjustifiably. For its part, the MLSZ considers its cooperation with the Romanian association to be appropriate, and we will continue to strive to maintain good relations in the future, but it is clear that its intervention in the matter is unauthorised and unfounded. This is why we have informed our partner organisation in a letter that in this case it is not within the competence of the Romanian association to assess and communicate the decision made by the MLSZ.

Finally, we reconfirm that MLSZ has evaluated the considered and careful statements of the two international organisations and has made a responsible decision in line with its own authority, with which it wishes to express respect for the unity of the hundreds of thousands of Hungarian fans living in many countries. We will allow draperies that do not contain racist and exclusionary messages into the stadium.

Here is a quote from FARE’s letter sent to MLSZ, in which the head of the organisation clearly confirms the Hungarian position, that the historical map of Hungary is not a discriminatory symbol in itself:

The display of the ‘greater Hungary map’ on banners is not in itself seen as an act of discrimination that would be the subject of a Fare report to an international football governing body – UEFA or FIFA.

“However, the display of the flag with other symbols or chants and behaviour, can lead to a report on the banner. This is specifically the case when the other symbols (or chants and behaviour) could reasonably be defined as xenophobic and ultra-nationalist, intended to deny the internationally-recognised territory of the neighbours of Hungary, or the symbols and chants are associated with far-right groups and symbols of hate”.

Furthermore, here is a quote from UEFA’s General Secretary in his letter addressed to MLSZ on Monday, in which he confirms that the organisation has closed disciplinary proceedings against MLSZ in the case of discrimination without penalty, which was initiated due to the display of a banner with the image on after the Hungary-Italy match, thereby creating a precedent:

“In this respect we note your reference to a recent decision of the UEFA Control Ethics & Disciplinary Body (CEDB) of 2 November 2022 to close proceedings opened against your national association for potential infringement of Article 14 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR) for the reported display of such banner in a UEFA Nations League match on 26 September 22 between Hungary and Italy”.

Hungarian team wins – England outraged?

Hungary-England-football-victory

Hungarian football team gained another amazing win this week against England. A British tabloid has started a “petition” to stop the English national team from playing against the Hungarians. Find out more about the above-mentioned, and what their national press had to say below.

Hungarians defeat England yet again

On Tuesday night, the Hungarian team won against the English national team, with no less than 4 goals scored by our team. The English team could not manage to score a single goal. England, silver medallists in the European Championship, have so far been very poor in the Nations League. Furthermore, the English press has been very vocal about their performance. The biggest newspapers in the country are not forgetting the great performance of the Hungarians.

A few weeks ago here in Hungary, the home team was able to win 1-0 against the English.

The BBC reports – “Hungary really beat England. It is the first time since 2014 that England has not won any of their four consecutive matches and it is worrying that their form and confidence are not back as the World Cup approaches. England was unable to do more than resign themselves to a humiliating and possibly devastating defeat, after which the fans not only booed but demanded the dismissal of Gareth Southgate. England must realise that Marco Rossi had built a versatile and hard-to-beat Hungarian team.”

“For the fourth time in eleven days, Southgate could not achieve victory. The Hungarians deservedly beat last summer’s European Championship finalists. England has not scored an action goal in four games and has not had such a long run in eight years.” – tells The Sun.

England’s “petition” against Hungarian team

It’s no wonder then that the British were scared, reports Blikk. They don’t seem to want to mince their words, at least one British tabloid, The Sun Football, has launched a “petition” in a post on Twitter to stop the English team from facing the Hungarian national team.

It’s a match that the English will certainly not forget for a while, but we will remember it forever. The Hungarian national team is getting stronger and playing better matches. In September, the Nations League will resume, where the team can show once again that Hungarian football did not end with the Golden Team.

Hungarian children booed England’s kneeling soccer team! – VIDEO

Hungary's population

The Hungarian national football team played much better than England in places on Saturday evening. The question in everyone remains: why were there over 30.000 children cheering for the home team? Continue reading our article to find out more.

Last Saturday evening, the Hungarian soccer team beat their English rivals at the Puskás Arena. The English team were the European silver medalists, this is why their defeat is surprising. We can firmly say that their first day of the 2022-2023 Nations League is not off to a great start. To great outrage from the foreign team, the audience was not made up of adults. This time, it was children who cheered on the Hungarian team.

Why were there children in the Hungarian arena?

The European Football Association (UEFA) originally imposed three closed-gate penalties on the Hungarian national team. This is because last summer’s European Championship was attended by unruly Hungarian fans. The penalty was later reduced to two closed-gate matches and the second closed-gate match was then suspended for two years, writes Magyar Nemzet. This is the very reason why the Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ) had to play by the rules. They took the opportunity to invite children under the age of 14, free of charge.

The case is that the 30.000 children verbally expressed their disdain towards England while the foreign team took a knee.

Here is a video about what happened:

According to the BBC, this is a thought-provoking blind spot in UEFA’s regulations, as while the closed-gate penalty should have been a deterrent, instead the Hungarian team were allowed to play in a festive atmosphere.

English press coverage of Hungarian victory

While the Hungarian soccer players celebrate, the English have to face the harsh truth. Their performance was indeed so lacklustre that not even their press could console them. The “tired and mediocre” play of the English team could not prevent the Hungarian victory, Origó reports. Gareth Southgate could not see any encouraging signs in his team’s play. They were rarely able to cause any trouble in front of the Hungarian goal, while the home side played much more creatively and determinedly – writes the BBC.

They liken England to a “dead battery” which they have tried in vain to revive.

The Guardian compares the England team to toothless lions, and the paper agrees that England played one of the worst games in our history in Budapest. The Guardian says Zsolt Nagy sprawled “theatrically” before the penalty. The England team was compared to the children cheering from up above.

The England team were slow, ponderous – the foreign press adds.

Ferencváros’ men’s football team defended their title with a 2-1 win over arch-rivals Újpest.

After a home win of Kisvárda and the defeat of Puskás Akadémia in Székesfehérvár, Ferencváros footballers ran onto the pitch for their 291st derby in the knowledge that a win would mathematically secure their fourth league title in a row and the 33rd overall. The Russian head coach Stanislav Cherchesov chose Dibusz – Somalia, Blazic, Kovacevic, Pászka – Vécsei, Laidouni, Esiti – Zachariassen, Boli, Tokmac for the starting line-up.

In the fourth minute, Blazic took a shot from outside the box, but Banai saved. Half a minute later, Újpest were awarded a penalty: Zivzivadze stepped up and shot into the bottom left corner (0-1).

In the 13th minute, Laidouni spotted Pászka free on the left, who looked up after an adjustment and fired the ball long, but the onrushing Zachariassen missed. Minutes later, a corner was headed wide by Pászka, but his flat effort was easily saved by Banai. In the 19th minute, Boli crossed the ball, Kastrati could not free himself, but Tokmac came from long range and equalised with a left-footed shot (1-1).

In the 39th minute, Pászka made a great pass to Vécsei, who put a great left-footed shot into the long bottom corner, and we had the lead (2-1). Three minutes later, Kovacevic was left on the ground and the referee immediately signaled the medical staff to come. After a short treatment Fradi Bosnian defender indicated that he could continue, no problem. In the one minute of extra time no further goals were scored and we went to the break with a 2-1 lead.

Second half

Fradi made one substitution during the break, with Somalia being replaced by Samy Mmaee for the restart.

In the 55th minute, Tokmac made a great start for Boli, who was tackled by the visiting defence before he could shoot, a corner was taken. Two minutes later, Újpest attacked and Croizet’s close range effort was saved by Dibusz with an amazing reflex move, and we still had the lead. In the 60th minute, we threatened again after Pászka’s cross, this time Boli turned off his defender and shot, but Banai saved, as he did two minutes later with Laidouni’s effort.

In the 63rd minute Loncar replaced Bálint Vécsei, who scored Ferencváros second goal. In the 71st minute, after a great counterattack, Loncar shot but was blocked by the Újpest defence. Moments later we made another change: Auzqui came on for Zachariassen. In the 73rd minute Újpest made a substitution: Mitrovic came on for Miroslav Bjelos.

In the 81st minute, Boli set up Pászka, who shot right after a cool dribble but missed the target. The referee gave 8 minutes extra time, and three minutes into the OT Loncar was sent off the pitch with a red card. Then Croizet equalised in stoppage time, but the referee disallowed the goal after viewing it again with VAR, as it was a handball.

The result remained unchanged for the rest of the match, and the home side beat Újpest for the tenth time in a row to defend their title, the thirty-third league title in the club’s history.

A young talent from Ghana’s royal family is now part of a Hungarian football team

football field ball

A young member of the royal family of Ghana’s Northern Region does not want to live the high life. He recently moved to Hungary, and now we know which domestic football team he will be playing in.

Mohammed Kadiri, who has Ghanaian royal blood in his veins, has arrived in the Hungarian capital from FC Dinamo Kyiv. Here, he will be joining Honvéd until the end of the season.

“When I was a child, I was called a prince. I could lounge around all day and live off my father’s money, but I decided early on that I would not depend on anyone, I would live my own life,”

explained the 25-year-old talent on the official website of Dinamo Kyiv.

According to Bors, Mohammed loves Hungary, and cannot imagine his life without football. As a player who can also play as a defensive midfielder and centre-back, there is a lot of potential in the Ghanaian talent.

As we can read in Blikk’s article, even though Mohammed comes from a distinguished family and could enjoy the rest of his life without doing any work, he wants to prove that he can stand on his own two feet. The athlete has even worked as a plumber before! He said the following about this job:

“I didn’t like it, but if it weren’t for football, I’d probably be working in the industry.”

According to Bors, he only asked his father for help once, as a teenager, when he could not make ends meet. Some of his brothers work in gold mines, two play football. So far, his brother Mohammed Fatau has achived the most: after playing for Italian academy Udinese, he has played for Spanish first and second division teams.

“I am very grateful to be here and I would like to thank all those who made it possible for me to join the club. It has always been my desire to be part of a football family like Honvéd, I am very happy to have been given this opportunity and I will work as much as possible to help the team achieve its goals. I want the club and the fans to be proud of me,”

said Mohammed Kadiri after signing to Honvéd, as reported by honvedfc.hu.

Russian Stanislav Cherchesov appointed manager of Ferencváros

Soccer - Stanislav Cherchesov appointed manager of Ferencvaros

Stanislav Cherchesov of Russia has become manager of Hungary’s defending soccer champion Ferencváros, the club announced on Monday.

Cherchesov, 58, takes over managing the team after a five-year spell at the helm of Russia’s national eleven, culminating in a quarter-final in the 2018 World Cup tournament.

Cherchesov, a one-time eminent goalkeeper, previously coached several European teams, including Spartak Moscow and Dynamo Moscow of Russia, and Legia Warsaw of Poland.

The former manager of Ferencváros, Peter Stöger of Austria, stepped down earlier this month, after six months with the team. Read more here.

After the autumn season, Ferencváros tops the standings of the first-division championship with a one-point lead and one match in hand. The duration of Cherchesov’s contract has not been disclosed.

Winter break

In round 17 of OTP Bank League, FTC hosted Budapest Honvéd at the Groupama Arena. After this weeks’ decision to part ways with former head coach Peter Stöger, on this last match, assistant Head Coach Csaba Máté directed the team.

Although the match was not specifically spectacular, Fradi did have several dangerous attacks in both the first and second half, especially by Ryan Mmaee, Tokmac, Uzuni and Zubkov. The first half ended 0-0 and in the second half Ferencváros did all to score a winning goal which quite late, but anyways arrived in the 91st minute. Szánthó won the ball from an insecure Honvéd defender and centered to Uzuni, who scored from close. With this goal and win, Fradi close 2021 in a positive spirit.

Soccer manager Peter Stöger to leave Ferencváros

stöger ferencváros

Peter Stöger, the Austrian manager of Hungarian first-division club Ferencvaros, is stepping down after just over six months with the team, Ferencváros announced on Monday.

His assistants, Gerhard Fellner and Alexander Bade, are also leaving the club, according to a statement on Ferencváros’s website.

Hungary ranked poorly on the list of European football academies

Football fans

The International Center for Sports Studies (CIES) has recently published a list of TOP100 that ranks the best European football academies based on their performance. There are even two Hungarian football training clubs, MTK and Honvéd, that made it to the ranking. However, there is still plenty of room for improvement.

The CIES looked at the football teams of 31 major European leagues in the previous season, including the Hungarian ones as well. If a player, between the age of 15-21, has been registered with his current club for at least three consecutive seasons, he was considered a club train player. Europe has 55 member states that play football, and Hungary now ranks 28th on the list of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). It’s important to mention that the great performance of Ferencváros positively influenced this ranking in the past three years.

Only two Hungarian academies have been listed in the ranking: MTK and Honvéd.

MTK has contributed with 28 while 22 Honvéd has given 22 club train players to European football. These players made it at least to National Championship and were, thus, included in the CIES statement. In the case of MTK, the club boasts two outstanding Hungarian players: Péter Gulácsi (RB Leipzig, Germany) and Barnabas Bese (Leuven, Belgium). Meanwhile, Honvéd has one legendary Hungarian player, Filip Holender, who has recently returned to his home country after a Swiss detour.

As the Hungarian news portal Telex reports, most of the football academies abroad are privately owned; however, the system works differently in Hungary. In November 2019, the government decided that it is the state’s responsibility to support the 10 priority training clubs. Last year, Felcsút received the biggest financial support: more than EUR 2.7 million out of the EUR 13.8 million budget per semester. However, the Pancho Arena, which has been operating since 2014, is not yet present in the ranking. The other 9 academies shared nearly EUR 11.1 million in government aid.

Among the TOP10 European academies, Ajax takes first place (81 players in 31 leagues), followed by Sahtar (75), Sporting (70), Dinamo Kiev (70), Dinamo Zagreb (70), Partizan (69), Real Madrid (62), Benfica (60), Sparta Prague (58), and Barcelona (57). What’s common between these above-mentioned academies is that not only do their youth clubs perform exceptionally well but also their adult clubs stand out since 8 of them already made it to the Champions League.

The Football Observatory also made a ranking of the quality of the players extracted. In TOP3, the order has changed a bit. Sporting has caught up to second place behind Ajax while Real Madrid stands at third place.

In this category, the Hungarian academies are ranked at the bottom: MTK is in the 91st place and Honvéd is in the 99th place.

The CIES further narrowed down the ranking by highlighting the institutions where the top league players come from. The top 5 European leagues (English, German, Spanish, Italian, and French) are home both to the best players and the best national teams. Among the top leagues, Real Madrid and Barcelona are ranked first, followed by Lyon, PSG, Rennes, Valencia, Arsenal, St. Etienne, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Monaco.

The last Hungarian player at the Real Madrid academy was Ádám Szalai, who is currently playing in Mainz. He has won more than 200 matches with the German team. Another outstanding Hungarian player is Mátyás Tajti, who was trained in Barcelona, and now plays as the midfielder of the Hungarian Zalaegerszeg team. We cannot miss Pál Dárdai either, the Hungarian head coach for Hertha BSC. Thanks to him, there are currently 17 former Hertha BSC players are registered in top leagues now. Dárdai also helped Hertha BSC to finish as the third-best German club after Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim.

The newly published ranking reflects that even though the listing of the two Hungarian academies seems encouraging, there is still scope for improvement.

Hungary vs Albania

Last night, the Hungarian football team hosted a World Cup qualifier in the Puskás Aréna and they played against the Albanians.

„Hungary was ordered by FIFA to play its next World Cup qualifier without spectators as punishment for the latest racial abuse by its supporters when England played in Budapest,” India Today reported.

Before the match began, the prime minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán posted a video on his Facebook page in which he mentioned the penalty of closed doors by FIFA, and with a small ball in his hand and with a scarf with Hungarian national colours around his neck, he said “Go Hungary! Go Hungarians!”.

Matchday brawl between Debrecen and Fehérvár fans sees 15 men arrested – VIDEO

This time, due to being almost no spectators in the stadium, only about 50 guest fans, there were no harassing each other’s teams or nationalities. And it also seems that there was no outrage around the topic of kneeling on the soccer field.

The first half-time was quite tense, but neither team could overpower the other and so the first half-time ended without any score on either team, but both teams’ play was really strong, Mandiner reported.

In the second half-time the Albanian team put pressure on the Hungarians and around the 80th minute of the match, the Albanian replacement player, Armando Broja managed to outmanoeuvre the Hungarian defences and scored the first and deciding goal.

With this loss at the 7th round of the qualifier, Hungary did not qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

Gábor Kubatov, the party director of Fidesz and the president of the most popular Hungarian football team, Ferencváros, shared a video on his social media page. In this video, he responds to doubts about the behaviour of Hungarian fans. Kubatov in the video shows how to behave.

On 2nd September, the Hungarians were defeated 4-0 by the English national team. However, after the match, serious indignation developed mainly due to the behaviour of the Hungarian fans. The English team has already been whistled at during the warm-up, the presentation of the players, the anthem, and when taking the knee against racism. Even more serious was the fact that Raheem Sterling, who scored the first goal, was thrown with plastic cups, writes 444.hu.

British PM Boris Johnson finds the case inadmissible, while FIFA has launched an investigation.

Kubatov’s new video was timed before Ferencváros’s first Europa League match against Bayer Leverkusen. Kubatov says in the video that “hooting and these things need to be forgotten”. The director of the Hungarian government’s party also emphasised that various racist and sexist comments were shouted in Hungarian. These were translated for UEFA inspectors. After that, the case was recorded, as a result of which the team and the fans can expect punishment.

Kubatov also speaks about the ambiguous arm swing.

The most important thing is not to swing with one hand. Kubatov says the intention is good, but he admits it is ambiguous. The name of the arm swing in the case of Ferencváros is “from heart to sky”. Kubatov says that Tóni, a well-meaning, decent man, is the inventor of the arm swing. The Ferencváros football team has previously indicated to UEFA that the gesture seen in the matches is not the same as that prevalent during Hitler’s Nazi Germany.

The party director asks for the arm swing to be done with both hands, and then he demonstrates the move.

Kubatov wants to avoid UEFA punishing the Hungarian national team and Ferencváros, index.hu writes. Many argue that UEFA applies a double standard, but Kubatov did not want to comment on that.
