Tax office receives HUF 1,000 billion overpayments
Budapest (MTI) – By the end of August the tax authority (NAV) had received around 1,000 billion forints (EUR 3.2bn) in overpayments, Magyar Idok daily said on Saturday.
Citing NAV data, the paper said that 100 billion of the overpayments had come from private taxpayers while companies accounted for the rest.
Citizens and individual entrepreneurs were generous when it came to their personal income tax and health-care contributions while companies overpaid corporate and social contributions. Also, employers sometimes deducted too much income tax from employees’ wages.
The overpayments pertain to 1.5 million private individuals and almost 400,000 companies.
