The best ice cream in Budapest right now
Summer is here again. In 2022, ice cream will still be the main thing to cool off with. We have gathered some ice cream shops in the Hungarian capital where you’re guaranteed not to be disappointed. Here are the best ice cream shops in Budapest.
Fazekas
The Fazekas Manufactory, which has been operating since 2017, began as a family bakery. Moving away from that, they moved into confectionery and ice cream making.
Their special, richly flavoured desserts are a true gastronomic experience.
They put no flavour enhancers or colourings in their ice cream. Fruit, chocolate, vanilla and oil seeds are the ingredients. In 2019, Ádám Fazekas’ pistachio ice cream won the gold medal at the Gelato Festival Europa competition.
Azúr
In 2014, Azúr opened in a small shop in the 13th district. They offer 120 flavours, with a daily selection. They offer sugar-free, lactose-free, gluten-free and even vegan ice cream. The price of a 6 dkg scoop ranges from 370 to 450 HUF (EUR 0.95-1.16).
Azúr aims to combine traditional recipes with modern tastes.

The historic Sissi ice cream parlour can be found in many places. You can find their ice cream shops in Gödöllő, Veresegyháza, Szentendre, Balatonakarattya and in the 16th district of Budapest.
They won the public prize for the ice cream of the year in 2021.
They also won the silver medal of the professional jury and a special prize. “We think it’s important for you to just enjoy the deliciousness and the flavours.” Andrea Koncz started working with ice cream in 1989. Later on, healthiness became a central focus. Sissi creates ice cream versions of traditional Hungarian cookies. Poppy seed, drum cake, cottage cheese rudi (Túró rudi) flavoured ice creams are popular with young and old alike.
Valdocco
Located in the 5th district of the capital, Valdocco is famous for its large portions. A scoop weighs 7-8 dkg. However, you can also ask for small scoops to taste as many flavours as possible. The most popular ones are chocolate and pistachio. The nearby playground adds to the popularity of the place.
