The best picnic places in Budapest

Spring has finally come, we shifted our clocks forward and it’s time to go out into the nature and spend some quality time with our loved ones. What’s better than a good picnic with a breath-taking view? Lobu.hu collected the best picnic locations in Budapest and we hope that you take a liking to a picnic.

Normafa

This is one of the best and most beautiful hiking places in Budapest, which also has a breath-taking view of our splendid capital city. It is ideal for the whole family as it has spacious playgrounds and great picnic spots, not to mention how it is a huge green zone. What’s more, the “children’s train”, the chair-lift and the Elisabeth look-out tower are very close. You can spend your whole day while relaxing at Normafa!

City Park

The City Park is amazing all year round; however, it is the best during the summer, when there are deck-chairs put out on the green areas. But you can also enjoy your day here in springtime: you can fly a kite from King Hill, feed the ducks at the lake or just go for a walk in the shades of the old trees. You don’t have to worry if the weather goes bad as you can have a coffee in the Városliget Café & Restaurant which has a beautiful view on the Vajdahunyad Castle and the City Park Lake.

Kopaszi dam

The Kopaszi dam, which was finished a few years ago, is another great picnic place. The park is beautifully constructed and reaches the level of the best European parks. Besides picnicking there are plenty of sporting opportunities and cafés. Moreover, if you don’t want to bring food with you, then you can choose from a wide variety of restaurants and bars. Kids’ favourite is the indoor play centre, which is also very modern and of high standard.

Orczy Garden

Budapest’s biggest English garden awaits all visitors in the middle of the city. After your lovely picnic you can go for a walk, check out the fascinating lake or visit the Natural History Museum in the Orczy Garden.  If this wouldn’t be enough there’s also an adventure park with different tracks for both adults and children.

Tabán

Breath-taking view of Budapest, playgrounds, fresh air, what else do you need for a perfect picnic? The park lies between Gellért Mountain, Sun Mountain and Castle Mountain in a beautiful environment. You can go sleighing in the winter, picnicking in the spring, while summer marks the beginning of festival season there as well.
