The first open-water beach in Budapest has opened — PHOTOS
The first natural beach of the Hungarian capital has opened on the Buda side of Budapest. Good quality water, gastronomic experiences, sandy beach, sports and cultural facilities await visitors at SHO Beach.
Close to the city centre, in the newest quarter of the capital, the first natural beach of Budapest has opened on BudaPart. SHO Beach was formed in a receding tributary of the Danube. Thanks to this natural feature, the water is clear, there is no drift, no vortex, and 3 metres is its deepest point.
The beach experience is associated with premium gastronomy.
SHO aims to combine a high-quality beach experience with a fine-dining gastronomic adventure. The SHO Chill & Grill beach bar and the MÁK pop-up truck serve this purpose. János Mizsei’s goal at MÁK is to widely promote top-tier gastronomy. Despite his young age, Mizsei has many accolades. The MÁK pop-up truck creatively combines the beach food experience with gastronomic trends.
At the MÁK pop-up truck of SHO Beach, poppy-seed lángos, as well as kürtőskalács with poppy-seed foam and catfish hake await people. At SHO Beach Chill & Grill, you can try traditional dishes in a new way. You can choose from duck sausage, chicken fajita, hamburger, and chia pudding. In addition, ice-cold cocktails, lemonades, and refreshments help to deal with the summer heat.
Various programs further enhance SHO Beach’s offerings.
Lockers, sunbeds, and SUP rental is already in operation. In addition, a picnic fireplace facility is planned on a larger shady area of grass. They also organise cultural events in this area (such as stand-up comedy). A water swing and giant Jenga will also be implemented in the near future.
Among the different entry prices, everyone can find the right one for them. The adult ticket is HUF 4,000 (€11) on weekends and HUF 3,200 (€9) on weekdays. However, student, pensioner, and child tickets are also available, as well as a discounted ticket from 4 pm. Admission is free for everyone from 18:30, but bathing is only possible until 19:00.
A unique, modern environment and closeness to nature add to the atmosphere of SHO Beach. The overall picture is somewhat spoiled by the noise of construction in the area, but thanks to the services, we can easily get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. SHO Beach is definitely a niche, so we can be sure that it will soon gain great popularity despite the slightly high prices.

A beach requires a sea. Neither Budapest nor Hungary has a sea. A river has a bank, a lake has a shore and a sea has a beach.
You are right. Hungary does not have a sea. Anyway, Lake Balaton is “the Hungarian sea”. So why not call this part of the river bank at Lágymányosi Bay a “beach”☺?
are there snakes in the water like in the Balaton?
