The Force Awakens draws record number of viewers in Hungary
Budapest, January 8 (MTI) – After becoming the highest grossing film of all time in Hungary, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has broken yet another record by becoming the fastest movie to draw more than one million viewers.
The seventh instalment of the epic space saga drew 1,005,146 viewers during its first three weeks of release, generating nearly 1.5 billion forints (EUR 4.7m) at the box office, the film’s Hungarian distributor said. The previous record was held by James Cameron’s Avatar, which took three months to reach the milestone.
The Force Awakens, directed by J. J. Abrams, has broken numerous records at the Hungarian box office in its first three weeks. The film destroyed opening day and opening weekend records, breaking the record for daily number of opening day and opening weekend viewers in the process.
The film has shattered box office records all across the world: it broke opening day records in Europe by bringing in 14.1 million dollars and also pulled in a record 57 million dollars in North America. It also broke the 524.9 million dollar global opening weekend record set earlier in 2015 by Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World by bringing in 528.9 million dollars.
The Force Awakens also surpassed the 1 billion dollar mark at the worldwide box office in a record 12 days, and will only open in China on January 9.
On Wednesday, the film overtook Avatar’s 760.5 million dollar gross to become the highest-grossing film of all time in North America with 764.4 million dollars.
