On June 26, a light aircraft crashed into a high-rise building near the East Third Ring Road in Beijing’s Chaoyang District, drawing public attention. Relevant departments immediately launched an investigation and response.
According to an official report on June 2, the incident resulted in 13 injuries, all of whom are in stable condition, and one person has been discharged from the hospital. The aircraft involved was an Aurora SA60L light aircraft, registration number B-12PP.
The investigation revealed that the pilot was a 66-year-old Beijing man surnamed Liu, divorced and living alone, a self-employed individual who obtained his pilot’s license in 2021 and 2024. On the day of the incident, he took off from the Pinggu District General Aviation Airport, deviated from the designated airspace, lost contact with the ground, and subsequently crashed into the building, dying instantly.
The investigation also revealed that Liu suffered from chronic insomnia and anxiety, and his diary contained multiple entries expressing suicidal thoughts. The official investigation concluded that the incident was a public safety incident caused by personal reasons.
