The Romanian media did not publish the US’s criticisms related to Hungarians living in Romania
Foter.ro writes that similarly to the previous years, this year portals and sites in Romania did not share anything about the Hungarian society’s grievances that are included in the report about human rights in 2015, made by the US’s Foreign Affairs Ministry.
The report was shared on Wednesday: the parts of it dealing with corruption, freedom of press and the current states of jails were released in Romania. So were those referring to the spreading of the nationalist, xenophobic, racist and anti-Semitic views. The discrimination of disabled, sexual minorities, Roma people, and those having HIV or AIDS was reported as well.
However, no information regarding Hungarians’ grievances, the limitations concerning the use of their mother language in their foreign surroundings, the lack of subtitles in justice and public services, were shared. Moreover, the original report included restitution cases, specifically the re-nationalization of the Székely Mikó Kollégium in Sepsiszentgyörgy, and also about the restriction of the national and Szekely emblems in the country.
