These transatlantic flights can return to Budapest in 2024
Katalin Valentínyi, the communications and government relationships deputy CEO of Budapest Airport, shared which transatlantic flights can return to Budapest in 2024.
According to turizmus.com, Valentínyi shared good news concerning Hungary’s main airport in Trend FM radio. She said Budapest Airport registered 8 million passengers in the first seven months in 2023. That means Hungary’s main airgate may forget all the hardships caused by the COVID pandemic. Furthermore, in July, the number of passengers at the Liszt Ferenc International Airport reached almost 1.5 million.
Valentínyi said they expect a strong autumn following the strong summer. Therefore, they modified their expectations since they will probably exceed the 14.3 million passengers prognosis. The Sziget Festival and the World Athletics Championships contributed to that success a lot. As a result, 2024 may see a new rise after the COVID-19 pandemic. By the end of this decade, they expect the number of passengers to rise above 30 million at Budapest Airport.

New terminal for millions of additional tourists, transatlantic flights
It is good news that from 2024, transatlantic flights can restart operation. Before the pandemic, New York, Toronto, Chicago and Philadelphia were on the timetable. Valentínyi said they would like to restart those routes. She added that the number of Chinese flights rose, while Seoul and Dubai never ceased operation.
She said Terminal 2 could serve 16-17 million passengers. Therefore, they want to reopen Terminal 1 (+5 million) and build a brand-new Terminal 3. As a result, they could provide high-quality service for 30 million passengers.
